Sleepy (lovingly renamed Chickpea by her current foster) came to Save-A-Pet in November 2020 with her mother and five kitten siblings. In January, our staff noticed that she was not gaining weight like her brothers and sisters, and that she was still hand feeding when the others were eating on their own. After specialty veterinary visits, bloodwork confirmed that Sleepy has congenital hypothyroidism. Congenital hypothyroidism is a very rare condition in cats and unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of literature describing this condition. What we do know is that this carries a very guarded prognosis, even with treatment. Sleepy has been started on thyroid hormone supplementation and needs to have her thyroid checked regularly. So far, Sleepy’s medical bills exceed $2,000.00 and will continue to grow.
We are requesting donations to help Save-A-Pet cover the cost of these expenses, and to continue providing her with the best quality of care!
