Save-A-Pet is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, no-kill shelter dedicated to finding loving, quality homes for each cat and dog in its care. Our organization the largest PURE no-kill cat and dog rescue in Lake County, Illinois that operates a full-time adoption center. We strive to create an environment which enhances both awareness of and support for the humane treatment of animals while providing a safe haven for abused, neglected, injured, lost, or animals that have escaped euthanasia. We do not temperament test our dogs and cats, nor do we discriminate against age, health, or any breeds. We offer adoption and foster programs and take animals from animal control facilities that might otherwise be euthanized.
In addition to our dedicated and continual care of animals, we provide many valuable services throughout our community. We offer two different year-round programs for children that are available for kids ages 11-14 as well as high school students. These programs provide an opportunity for children to learn, understand and participate in the care and proper treatment of animals. Activities range from interacting with potential adopters, cleaning specific areas and spending time with our dogs and cats. In addition, we also visit nursing homes on a weekly basis, actively participate in a variety of community events and partner with numerous corporations that endorse volunteer programs for their employees.
In-house we have an extensive volunteer program with approximately 350 active volunteers, many of whom reside in our local community. These dedicated volunteers are instrumental in caring for the animals, walking our dogs, playing with our cats, attending community events, fundraising, as assisting with various programs. We take great pride in practicing our no-kill mission and in stewarding our donors’ contributions; both of which have led to the successful adoption of more than 63,000 dogs and cats.
